(Knoxville, TN) Today Renee Hoyos signed the American Promise pledge that seeks to control the amount of money flowing into the political process. She is committed to supporting efforts to regulate corporate and special interest contributions.
“This third-party spending, in the hundreds of millions of dollars, is not a positive influence on the democratic process. Often, their messages contribute to the negative advertising and hateful messages so common during the campaign season. What we are hearing and seeing daily is a critical reminder that we need more civil discourse in our politics,” stated Hoyos.
In addition to calling for changes in campaign spending regulations, Hoyos does not accept PAC money and has stated her opposition to the Citizens United decision that allows unregulated corporate dollars to flow into the election process.
